Photography ~ Facebook– June 2016 Photo-a-Day Challenge–Day 11

Since I cannot submit a collage, I have to find a single photograph to represent my 2008 [odyssey] rides.

The  prompt is: If I wrote a novel, it would be about…

…a 2008 Coast-to-Coast [and more] Cycling Odyssey

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Niagara Falls

This novel would begin with a Catrike Rally in Winter Garden, Florida, followed by the Face of America Ride from Bethesda, Maryland to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Late June ’08 began the actual odyssey by biking in Virginia & Tennessee; then a drive [with a breakdown in South Dakoda] to Idaho, then on to Wenatchee & Seattle, Washington; from Seattle a one-day [204-mile] bike ride to Portland, Oregon; follow that with a drive to Minnesota for a short visit with Hazel. Go from there to Iowa for RAGBRAI. Meet friends in Illinois and ride with them. Go home for a few days before driving to Buffalo, New York to ride with cyclist at Niagara. Home again, then to Georgia and later to Charleston, South Carolina for more riding.

Two Thousand Eight was a heck of a cycling year. I am glad I documented enough of the story that [if I were so inclined] I could indeed write a novel about a fictionized character who took on these feats and met the challenges as they happened. Could there be “a Best Seller” here?

Cycles ~ My VK2 ~ For Sale by current owner, 07/07

It has changed a bit, but my former bike none-the-less. See details here.

Cycles ~ My [former] VK2 is for sale!!!

It is so…
See this BROL Thread:

…and then there is Poit ["Pete"] ~ 05/17

May 13th through the 16th, we saw 64 competitors Race Around Slovenia—a course of  1231.1 km in 3 – 4 days, depending on the racer’s ability. The conditions were tough—37 Did Not Finish. Bravo to the 27 who did!

Super BRAVO to Poit Heal [PoiterH], who began his quest [to ride around Australia] May 1, 2010, and plans to complete that task in under 50 days. He has been riding since 05/01, with short sleep periods. His ride is NOT supported. Let’s see where is Pete now? Last I reported:

SPOT Around OZ Record Attempt Live Tracker Now on Day11, Pete has the following metrics from his SPOT Messenger: distance = 2876.88 kilometers, SPOT Average speed = 12.37 kph. The ride began Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Sydney, the top-most green balloon in New South Whales. He is now in the vicinity of the SPOT Tracking Marker [orange & black] in Queensland. Updates continue to be posted on page3 of this BROL Thread. Pete is riding at a rate that will achieve the record he seeks—circumnavigate Australia in under 50 days. The best Pete…

Were is he now?

Poit's Australia 0517 SPOT distance = 4821.01 kilometers, SPOT Average speed = 12.69 kph

BROL’s Freddyflatfoot [Rob] says:

Go, Poit, go!

Look at the man go! Over 5100 k’s in 16 days. Around 320 k’s per day, every day, for 16 days.
Anyone reckon Poit can do it less than 50 days? You betcha!
Can feel a new record coming along!
And I thought I was doing well with over 5000 k’s for the year, .
Oh, he’s currently in a little town called Larrimah, in the Northern Territory.
Wiki has the population at just 18!

It is awesome to see what this super athlete is doing. He is riding a recumbent—a Velokraft VK2.

866057 Pete, we are awed by what you are doing. The best in this pursuit. Our watch continues! CHEERS!

Aikigreg [BROL Mem.] ~ My Velokraft VK2

IMG_0186 An unexpected [03/26] sale. ‘Bentrider Online Member [BROL] Aikigreg is the buyer. The VK2 was shipped today, 04/14. It took longer than I had hope to get packed. It is done and Woodie, my LBS mechanic, always does a terrific packing job. Now I trust Aikigreg will have as much fun with the VK2 as I did. I took a photo of the package delivery to FedEx. Regrettably, I moved my iPhone as I was snapping the photo. Anyway, Greg enjoy the ride. I know you will take care of the bike. Thanks! and enjoy. –jim

cycles1[1] My stable of 7 cycles [The Magnificent 7] became the Sensational 6 with the sale of my RANS Stratus XP to Michele. With this loss, the stable is known as the Fabulous 5. My sales agent [Woodie] has one of my road bikes and my MTB to sell. I could be down to 4 cycles before my quad [Fargo] arrives. I’m hoping to see a Catbike Musashi in the late summer as a replacement for the VK2. So maybe down to 3, then back to 4, and ultimately a return to the Fabulous 5.
