DIY [#16] Gear/Kit–Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 RainCover Doors [the model is complete], 03/14

Modeling saves misdirection…

I’m happy to have decided on magnets for the rain cover doors. The featured image has one panel in place. Next: 1) work more on the wood finish; and, 2) wait for the polyethylene to come on Thursday.

No longer hinged–the 3 black polyethylene triangles will be connected using magnets.

Door HubAs I looked for a hinge that I thought would work well, I looked more at latches so that I can easily remove the doors.

Then, I looked at drawer magnets–hum… I have magnets.

Do I cut holes and embed them or mount them on the surface?

I decided to mount them on the outer edge of the disc using a screw, the slot in the magnet and glue.

I have a very solid bond. I use a rubber belt to render an interesting effect.

In the center, I placed a 1.25″ shaft as I did in the cone used to lift the shoulder of the rain cover.

Painted black, it’s nearly ready to be placed on the end if the tripod head.

A magnet for each door [triangle]Each door [triangle] has a magnet on its outside to reduce the magnetic pull. I’ll mount them with Scotch 1-in wide Two-Sided Tape. to model, I’m using double sided mounting tape. Thursday, I’m to receive the polyethylene and cut 3 triangles from the 24″ x 48″ sheet.

Stay tuned…
