Cycle South Carolina ~ 06/12 – 06/18 6

Cycle South Carolina is one of South Carolina’s largest state bike tours. Beginning and ending in Charleston, Cycle South Carolina’s route takes participants on an exciting journey through some of South Carolina’s most historic and beautiful areas. Proceeds from Cycle South Carolina go to benefit the UMRC, a non-profit which works to rebuild and rehabilitate the homes of South Carolina families in need. A small amount will go to Charleston Moves.

There is interest on BROL. Friends in Maryland that we met biking from Toronto to Niagara will be there. This is on my list of 2010 rides…

THREE [3] World Records ~ Maria Parker Reply

World Record Spreadsheet

Well, my unofficial spreadsheet now has the UMCA OFFICIAL RESULTS [lap 13 above--bolded]for Maria Parker’s ride October 10, 2009. Congratulations Maria and crew. Now we knew [unofficially] she had ridden more than 241 miles. Here is what we did not know for sure [the other 2 records]:

  • 100 Mile               4 hr 47 min 56 sec             4:47:56                  20.84 mph
  • 200 Mile               9 hr 55 min 34 sec             9:55:34                  20.15 mph

I think there are many who would love to complete a century that fast. most would love to just finish a double-century. These records are a remarkable achievement by a remarkable person.

Thanks to Dr. Jim Parker for providing me the official results [e-mail addresses removed].

Congratulation to John Schlitter, ultra cyclist, RAAM Racer, and rider extraordinaire. This is extracted from the ‘Bentrider Online Home Page.

Bacchetta’s own John Schlitter was the top points finisher in the UMCA’s Ultracup standings, finishing ahead of all other bicycle types and age groups, and a very tough international group of UMCA and RAAM racers.   John’s 197 point total was 7 points ahead of the next European upright bicycle racer, and 30 points ahead of the next American upright competitor.

53 year old John has been on a roll over the last six race seasons, starting with his Race Across Florida all bike record in 2004, and current RAAM recumbent records in 4 man (2005)  2 man (2007) and solo (2008), among many other records and victories listed here…

Here are the 2009 year end Ultra cup standings…

I watched and cheered John in his 2008 Solo Race Across America. John, we are all proud of you! Again, CONGRATS!

Photo from Maria's CrewRemember Maria Parker and the 46-seconds iPhone video I shot of her as she passed the lap marker has soared to the number 2 spot on my all time list of page views. My Catrike 700 page formerly held that spot.

Congrats to Maria for being the popular subject in my little vid and garnering such interest. As I shot it, I had no idea how popular it would be. It continues to receive multiple daily views.

Doug Burton–12-hour Technical Evaluation Reply

Doug BurtonAn awful lot of this is "not about the bike". It’s all about the rider, her comfort, confidence and condition. Remember, Cruzbikes are developed with "systems thinking", and that’s also how we compete. Optimizing one part of the system (the bike) at the expense of another (the rider) is a recipe for failure.

Doug has posted his technical evaluation of Maria Parker’s record setting ride last Saturday [10/10/09].
