Home-Linden-Erwin-Godwin-Wade-Home–a Fifty Miler Reply

I rode this route 12/12 on the RANS Stratus XP. Today, it’s the DF [54.65 miles in 3:30:50., averaging 15.6 mph].

Here is the graphic:

To complete the balancing, I now need an additional 14.61 miles. I have a service call around 2:00 p.m. I’ll use the DF for transportation [approximately 6 miles round trip]. Then, I’ll ride an out-and-back of about 8 miles to complete the balancing. Stay tuned…

Did A 10-Miler Reply

Well, today I rode less than I had hoped. Perhaps, I like pressure. Now, what will tomorrow bring? For one thing, it is suppose to bring rain. To achieve my balanced recumbent/upright riding goal, I need to ride 69.25 miles tomorrow.

At least I got 10 of the remaining 80 miles out of the way. Any again, this is gravy on my already completed century and 5K goals.

Today, I had hoped to get the majority of the 79.91 miles that I want to ride to balance recumbent and upright mileage. However, I experienced gracilis muscle cramping last night that left the muscle sore. I decided not to risk further injury by doing the C4 ride this morning, so I delayed my ride. During the delay, I watched the James Brown funeral on CNN–WOW!

At 4:22 p.m. I headed out for as much of a ride I could get in before dark. I rode one-way on the Cross Creek Trail and then back via Rosehill Road. Fortunately, upright riding uses a different muscle group than bent riding; therefore, I was able to ride hard and complete this ride with a 16.0 mph average. I Feel Good! [although the damaged muscle still hurts]

P.S. Now I’m watching CNN’s coverage of President Ford’s arrival in Washington, DC and the follow-on coverage.

2006 Cycling 5K Goal Update Reply

Got in two VK2 rides today [for the fun of it].

  1. Rockfish
  2. Eastover [I set my best average speed record (to date) on this ride with the VK2.]

Documented 2006 miles so far–5,048.03. I now have one more goal for 2006, and 2 days to achieve it. I want to balance [as mentioned before] my upright and recumbent miles. To do so, I need 79.91 DF of MTB miles. This goal accomplished, I’ll end this year with 5,127.94 miles. What will happen???

I plan to get as many of these miles as possible on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday. At this point, I have not decided the routes I’ll ride. I think I’ll do the club ride tomorrow morning, with a supplemental ride in the afternoon.

Now at 5,011 Miles and Counting… Reply

Today I rode the VK2. I plan to ride it at least 2 more times before the end of the year. I am so close to balanced miles between the uprights and the recumbents, that I may ride the DF to have equal miles for both types of bikes. If I do so, as of today, I’ll need approximately 44 more miles on my road bike. It’s all doable by the 31st, providing the weather remains favorable or I choose to ride in spite of weather conditions.

OK, both my 20 Century and 5,000 mile goals for 2006 have been achieved. I completed 21 centuries (1 double century; 9 days of consecutive rides over 100 miles [Fayetteville, NC to Key West, FL] and 1 set of 4 consecutive century rides and 1 set of 2 days, a break, and 2 more days of centuries [both Fayetteville, NC to Richmond, VA and return]. The miles ridden so far are GPS documented miles [since I purchased the Edge 305 in March 2006]. Of course, I rode in Jan, Feb, & Mar and check rides and cool-downs where I stopped GPS recording. I do not have the exact mileage for non-GPS miles. My recollection is about 1,800 miles. I’m comfortable thinking I will have ridden around 6,300 miles for the year. I will, however, stay with the documented miles. Let’s see what the year-end totals are…

BTW, how far is 5,000 miles? [from an earlier post] If we began in Fayetteville, North Carolina, here are a few distances:

The question is, what should my 2007 cycling goals be???
