Silk ~ Dirty Dog Spider Rotors, etc. Reply

Well, if you have spider rotors, shouldn’t you have a spider? I thought so on Fargo and had 3 of the little  arachnids accompany me on my recent 300 mile tour. I actually came to like my little mascots.

You see two of them here. My third friend was on the Fargo Trailer.

Now, that I’ve made the association from disc brake rotors to mascot, I have to do the same with Silk, right???

Silk ~ Brake Lights Switch 4

The concept and lights work well, as evidenced by my lighting video. The switch, rather simplistic in design, moves a spring against two split semi-circular contacts at the base of the switch. Pulling the brake lever [and thereby moving the cable to the rear] compress the switch, contact is made, and the circuit closed.

My initial setup was without my rotors being in place. Yesterday, I installed them and made brake adjustment. Although I can brake with the brake cable routed through the switch, I have better leverage and adjustability with my Avid BB7 Disc Brakes. The is very little exposed cable and only between the brake swing arm and the brake frame [used as a stop for the switch]. So, the question is where else can I place this switch.

CRW_1636.CRW I tried several locations. For now, this is it. I need a location that does not interfere with my normal riding hand position. This works. At some point, I may find a different normally-open switch that I can integrate with the BB7 system. I have the same installation for Fargo—my quadricycle.

I’m open to your suggestions.

Thanks!

Jim

Silk ~ I cannot find my disc rotors??? 5

Dirty Dog Spider Rotors on SilkI have looked for several days. I know I would have put them in a plastic bag along with the 6 torx screws for each rotor. You see, Silk loaned her front wheels for the Fargo trailer. I hope I would have place the rotors in the bicycle room [even if it is junky now]. I’ve looked throughout the house—no luck. Oh well, sometimes one has got to deal with situations like this, and I have.

Little brother Fargo is a donor of 2 of his Dirty Dog Spider Rotors. The rear two are in Utah now [as the quad rear-end is services]. Since I won’t be riding Fargo for a while, it only makes sense to place the rotors on Silk so that she can be ridden—right???

I guess I’ll have to have Ashley send me 2 more rotors when he ships the rear-end. I gave a heads-up that this was a possibility.

Of course, I have a couple more pictures…
