Home ~ Cedar Works ~ Overflow & Conduit, 01/06 7

Well, 825 gallons of rainwater may not be all that much. If my rate of consumption [including making potable water] is too low and there is rain, the 3 rainwater totes will backup, with input spillover or we can have overflow. Most system I read about make provisions for such. I have as well.

I use the container’s 2” top opening for air escape as well as overflow. For now, I plan to pipe it to my side yard. Water we going there from one of the down spouts anyway. I’ll place a screen in the pipe to keep mosquitos [and any other bugs] out. Oh, I forgot to tell you the roof swings open. I’ll post a photo of it open tomorrow

I dug the trench last night [even posted a comment [with picture] to my “Home ~ Artis Waterworks ~ Today [01/05] Initial Plumbing” article. The trench was usable this morning.

Putting in the conduit was my first project this morning—cold as it was. The tubing from the filter and to the hand pump both have to be put in. Note the hole-in-the-wall in the photo on the left. That is where the conduit enters the storage [cistern] pit.

I made the foot stool you see—made 2 of them. I use them primarily in the coop area.

  1. The containers will fill to the level of the overflow pipes, providing the input source is higher. Water seeks its level in containers. Remember, I fill from the bottom as well. Each container fills equally and will overflow equally. If I were to fill from the top, container #1 would fill, then #2, and #3. I take overflow from the top to get the maximum water in each tote. –jim

  2. Tomorrow, I’ll attempt to make the delivery pipe totally straight. It bends to the left on the west end. I need longer connectors to each tank. I hope to start on the potable water tote box frame. Rain is in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.
