Cruzbike ~ John Tolhurst brings his Vendetta to White Oak… 3

Maria …and, Maria Parker makes it go.

John How exciting, and I got to witness it all. John, one of the Cruzbike’s Co-Founder and Design Director, from Perth Australia, is in North Carolina visiting the Parkers, also Cruzbike founders. You may recall my article last September of John’s Vendetta Prototype. Well, here is what my eyes see today.

The Parkers

The "yellow Boke" ~ John rode it...Words are not needed... Today, Maria rides a lap of her record setting 12-hour ride, but not on the “yellow bike” as we know it. This time, it is on the Vendetta, Cruzbike’s new offering—another “yellow bike.” Well, soon to be a new offering. Production is projected to begin in about a month, pending suggestions from Maria. The Vendetta is coming folk!!!

Dr. Jim Parker invited me to visit with them in Lumberton during John’s stay. Given Maria’s ride today, he asked If I’d join them in White Oak. I agreed and here we are.

Before roll out...,

I have more exclusive information that I’ll publish as a comment to this article. Hey, Maria will race again this fall [on the Vendetta] and I’ll be there to cover it. I even got to see a sneak preview photograph of the bike. Thanks Jim & Maria and John!

  1. Yesterday, Dr. Parker shared this information with me:

    Hi Jim,
As usual, John has built-in some unique and probably patentable innovations. The handlebar/brake/shifter set-up is very functional and unique. The Adjustable Front Tube (AFT) is much stiffer for more power transfer, and curved to give clearance for a FD mounting post that provides a great place to mount the FD without worrying about changes in the chain angle with adjustments to the AFT. We don’t have product specs yet. John flew into the Fayetteville airport with the Vendetta after a visit with Tom Traylor in L.A. Until yesterday, the bike had only been ridden by John and Tom. Maria put 30 miles on it yesterday. I took my first ride on it this morning and put about 20 miles on it. This is the only prototype, and John is leaving it here for Maria to train on and reset the 100 mile record this fall. Pending any suggested changes from Maria, the bike will go into production in about one month. I found the bike to be very fast. This morning with a headwind I could sprint up to 28 mph, tailwind a bit over 32 mph. Holding 20 even with a mild headwind is a steady sustainable output. There is no suspension, but the ride wasn’t that bad… better than I expected. That’s my first impression. I’m sure I will get better/faster with more time on the bike.

Tomorrow you can see it for yourself. Attached is a sneak peak photo.

Thanks Jim! I trust my readers will like what they are seeing and reading here.
