Fargo ~ Mods & Tweaks ~ Power—from Box to Bag 6

The left Catbag, looking therein from the front, left-side That is, from the Power Box as you know it to  a “Catbag” for the Catrike Expedition. The bags are made by Arklel, a Canadian Company. I came upon this idea Monday night and began work, completing it last night. It is functional and works. The battery will be mounted elsewhere.

I asked my readers to identify the container for the circuit board. I received two guesses. Mr. Roger Zoul of BROL ID the Catbag.

Interesting use of the Expedition “Catbags” made by Arkel for Catrikes!

  1. The purpose of the drill is to reduce the total weight of Fargo. This is a step in that direction. I’ll get the bag weight later. I will not compare it to the box because of very different setup. I’m interested in the Total Fargo weight when the mods and tweaks are finished. –jim

  2. Roger says [on BROL]:

You know….we could use that idea to build compartments into the Expe bags!! I like to run my DiNotte Batteries into to mine and would like them to stay near the top. Then I could have another compartment for tools and another for snacks. Hmm….

    To which, I reply:

We are only limited by our imagination…

  3. Question for you Jim,
Will the charging AAs stay in position as Fargo experiences the vicissitudes of roads travelled? Or will a hard knock or two bounce them to the bottom of the bag?

Your power box streamline solution is certainly unique. I’ve recently started using the Catrike/Arkel bags. They have so much carrying capacity I all too easily toss in an extraordinary amount of tools & supplies. My Cat ends up weighing far more than I’d planned! Grin

    • We will have to see Greg. They [AAs] stayed in place in the Power Box, although the charger was on its bottom versus side. if it is a problem, I have a bungee solution. Even with the solar apparatus in place, I have space. I too will have to be careful with weight. It is easy to haul more than is wise. –jim

  4. As to weight:

    Empty bag: .59 lbs
Bag with solar controller, etc. 2.99 lbs

    Weight of Controller: 2.40 lbs

That is much less than the Power Box w/o the battery, iHome Speaker, inverter and related components [meters, connection blocks, etc.

  5. I also let Arkel know I’m using their bag in a unique way:

    Good Morning,

I’m wondering if you have an interest in unique/special uses of your bags. In this case I adapted your Catrike Expedition Bag for use as a solar panel control bag. Previously I used a larger box, I called a Power Box. Now I have a Power Bag—my Catbag. Pictures below:
