I’ve Become one of THEM!

Managing EditorI’m not going to sugarcoat anything here. When I started this site ten years ago, I was a 24 year old punk who thought that most recumbent riders were complete geeks. I loved the bikes and most of the people that I met, but some of my readers provoked an eye roll or two. I identified with the racers and record setters. I admired the homebuilders for their ingenuity. I was inspired by the people who used their recumbents to lose large amounts of weight or simply to stay active when “conventional” bicycles failed them. The people that made me cringe were the ones who had way too many overpriced and useless accessories on their bikes. It offended every sensibility I had as a recovering weight-weenie racer. All of those gadgets and widgets just seemed unnecessary and I thought they sort of ruined the purity of the cycling experience somehow. I probably even told some of you that when I met you at various events.
Well it may have taken me a decade, but I’ve finally managed to get my foot all the way into my mouth. As I look at my current ride of choice, I have no choice but to admit… I have become one of you. Read the rest of this entry »
