A SPOT Messenger II for Zeke 3

SPOT II Messenger Cecil “Zeke” Yount, my cycling friend and recent host, from Waynesville, North Carolina picked up a second SPOT II Messenger today from the Asheville, North Carolina REI Store. The one he got yesterday did not work—not one of the recalled units. Zeke is not about to embark on a cycling odyssey [like Poiter "Pete"  Heal] on any type, nor is he about to circle the USA in his camper. He is headed on vacation and will share his whereabouts. I now await a SPOT email from Zeke’s new unit.

I ordered mine 04/09/10 from Amazon.com and still await shipment. I find none locally. One store still awaits receipt of the SPOT II. It looks like REI may have to be my emergency source.

Now on Day11, Pete has the following metrics from his SPOT Messenger: distance = 2876.88 kilometers, SPOT Average speed = 12.37 kph. The ride began Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Sydney, the top-most green balloon in New South Whales. He is now in the vicinity of the SPOT Tracking Marker [orange & black] in Queensland. Updates continue to be posted on page3 of this BROL Thread. Pete is riding at a rate that will achieve the record he seeks—circumnavigate Australia in under 50 days. The best Pete…

Terry, with Rainjacket

KV_to_IlwacoOur BROL Friend TyTrike [Terry Stankunas] is a crazyguyonabike. His writings prove it:

  1. Spring all the way | Big Sur -> Organ Pipes Cactus -> Susanville
  2. Washington Coast: Canada to Ilwaco

Saturday, May 15, 2010, Terry embarks on yet another adventure—this time on a quadricycle. He tells me he will chronicle it as a Crazyguyonabike Journal. Regarding riding a quad [Terry calls it quadding], He says:

Quadded 15 uneventful miles yesterday [05/07]… some minor tuning needs showed. Quad ride quality is distinctly different from triking … quite preferred … more than exceeding my expectations. Not going to pinpoint a description until have ridden many more miles.

Let’s watch Terry on this adventure and keep our eyes peeled for his next Crazyguyonabike Journal. The best to you and your daughter, Karen, as you embark on this tour with your newly designed quad.
