For those considering the purchase of a Rohloff Speedhub

  1. Now I feel qualified to purchase a Rohloff Speedhub for my 2008 Rans Stratus XP. 8)

On which of your bikes have you used a hub? How many miles have the hub(s) seen? Your experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • Hello Dan,

Good the information is helpful. I do not have an IGH on either of my 7 cycles. The Rohloff goes on a quadricycle I am having built. It will be installed as a mid-drive. I’ve wanted a Rohloff Speedhub since 2006 and will now make it a reality. Fortunately, I’ll tour with it this sumber and will have full break-in in weeks instead of months. Thanks for asking and the best with your RANS Stratus XP. –jim

  2. I’ve got 2 years and somewhere above 4,000 miles on my Rohloff. There is one trick I’ve used when changing the oil: I put the bike on a trainer at low resistance and pedal for 15 minutes while cycling through all off the gears. It works the cleaner in much better than hand cranking, the shifting is easier because I am in my normal riding position, I can easily shift through all the gears instead of what a road ride would allow me, and if I have a problem, I’m not stuck on the side of the road.

    • Hi Is Maisin,

Thanks for the tip. Now to figure how to do the with a quad. I find a way. I appreciate your comment. I’ve read many of your BROL postings on the Rohloff as well as looking at your many flickr pictures on your setup. I want to use a 27-tooth Schlumpf HSD as you are with my setup. Of course, there is much written about the warranty. My concern is a non-torque related problem–that 1% of ther drives that have problems. I wish there were different rules for recumbents. Thanks for the visit and post. –jim
