A Trailer for Fargo ~ DIY ~ [Step Four Prep] 2

Today I went to my local electronics store to order a 3 VDC Latching Relay [for my wireless DiNotte trailer tail light switch hack]  and to buy yellow heat-shrink-tubing [for the fender & flag mount]. They cannot get the relay I need and do not have the size heat-shrink-tubing I need. Anyway, the heat-shrink-tubing is on order—about a week.

I then went to my LBS to pick up 2 free cycling flags and discuss my trailer wheels. Got the flags & accepted the suggestion that I replace the cart wheels with bicycle wheels, principally because of rolling mass, my wish for smoother bearings, and the fact the rim will not take regular cycling tires. The question is: Will a trike wheel fit the axle?

The answer is yes! I tried my CT700 16″ wheels and they fit perfectly. Of course, they are 16″ versus the 20″ cart wheels and the size I think my quad wheels will be. I want to use at least 4 wheel on this tour that are the same size for tires & tubes. If I go with my CT700 wheels, I have no cost. I may have to for this year. Anyway, there is low rolling mass and the bearings are smooth. The trailer looks good with the 16″ wheels.

Tomorrow, I get to fit the fenders & install the DiNotte 140L tail lights and then take pictures. It is a shame I do not have the yellow heat-shrink-tubing. At issue with the fenders will be how they fit with 16″ versus 20″ wheels. I think they will be okay with either. We shall see.
