A Trailer for Fargo ~ DIY [Step Three] Reply

Left-Front 3/4 Shot

In this step I attached a 1" steel tube that will function as the towing tongue. I trust I’ll have a place on the quad to attach it. The level tongue is about 12" off the ground. To make the tongue, I used my pipe cutter to take a section of the cart’s handle. I drilled a hole in the floor to accept the bent section of pipe. The pipe is attached to the trailer at 3 points using U-Bolts. It is secure and will not fail [I hope]. I also rid myself of most of the wheel slop by adding 6 spacer washers. It will be up to my LBS to improve on wheel rotation.

My next venture will be for safety decals for the rear. Today, I ordered 2 of the shipping tubes that are to go on the quad. I will use one for storage and to conceal part of the tongue’s points of attachment from the top. I also ordered 2 DiNotte 400L AA Battery Powered Taillights. They and my 4 400L lights are on the way. I think that is about it. I’ll post the trailer lighting location later. Oh yes, I will undercoat the bottom to protect it from water, dirt, & grime.

Now, to go sticker shopping…

Fargo Solar Power ~ 02/10 update 4

Yesterday, Wednesday, before I began work on my trailer, I completed charge of my 3 DiNotte Li-Ion batteries and topped of the 12-Volt SLA Battery at 15+ volts. I used my camera tripod to hold the solar panels. It was quite windy, so I brought the system in early. My observation is: any use of the inverter seems quite costly. I tested my iPod & iHome Speaker and saw an immediate voltage drop—about 2 volts. That does not mean I will do use them. I’ll just choose my time, monitor voltage levels, and try to ensure there is sufficient sunshine to top of the battery. Again, management of the power system will be FUN.

The most important test is yet to come—my DiNotte 400L lighting  [on low]. I’m still waiting for their return. Now, I’ve added another burden—lighting for the trailer. I plan to use 2 DiNotte 140L AA Taillights. I’ll speak with Rob today to confirm. More to come on that later. Please stay tuned…
