A Trailer for Fargo ~ DIY [Step Two] 4

In this step I mounted my 2 Stanley FatMax® 28" Structural Foam Water Resistant Toolboxes. They are centered on the axle and attached to the floor with 6 nuts & bolts each. Now, you see what I have done. I am very pleased with the functionality of this setup. I need to clean up wheel sloop—not a problem. Fender mounting may be interesting. Where is my quad???

The space between the two boxes allows the respective lids to open perpendicular to the box. I will likely place a shipping tube on the floor between the boxes. My next step is to attach a tongue. I expect it will require some bending to mate with the quad’s hitch. Sorry for the indoor pictures. I hope to take some better ones tomorrow.

Underside of floor & wheels I carried through on my thoughts and purchased a Northern Industrial Yard Cart —41 1/2" long x 23 1/2" wide, with 12 1/8" sides, 300-Lb. Capacity. I only used the axle, wheel, front panel, and appropriate hardware. The front panel became my floor to which I will attach my two FatMax® 28" Structural Foam Water Resistant Toolboxes. I’ll also attach a tongue to connect it to the quad. The  yard cart in itself is heavy. As you see it here it weighs 19 lbs.

Floor & wheel The wheels could be lighter. They are certainly stout and robust. I do not see how I could ever have a spoke problem with them. I plan to run the same 20" tires and tubes on the trailer as on my quad.

I’ll have my LBS look to see if we can remove some of the wheel play and improve on the bearings.

For slightly less than 1/3 the cost of the Wandertec Bongo and 2.5 lbs more weight I’m about 80% where I want to be. I’d also have to do a tongue for the Bongo.

A Trailer for Fargo ~ Northern Industrial Yard Cart 8

I think I will build my own trailer using this cart from Northern Tool + Equipment as a base. It is $275 cheaper than the Wandertec Bongo Trailer I commented on yesterday. If I use the plywood at all, it would be the floor. On to it, I would place the two FatMax® 28" Structural Foam Water Resistant Toolboxes.

Northern Tool & Supply Trailer Cart has 300-lb. working load capacity. Two 20" spoked pneumatic wheels with ball bearing hubs for smooth movement. Removable front panel for easy loading and unloading. Use for pots, tools, plants, clippings, seed and more. Bed size is 41 1/2" long x 23 1/2" wide, with 12 1/8" high sides.

Again, I welcome your thoughts.
