I have received several replies from Ashley Guy [BROL member Moadib64] of Utah Trikes. He tells me their quad is well suited for touring and that he can meet unique requirements that I have for a touring cycle. I have arrived at preliminary specs for such a build. Here is a picture of a similar build. I want a black quad and their 2010 quad color is black. Here is a picture of a similar build in yellow. Other pics here…

How easy it will be to repair flats…no hastling getting to the rear wheels… they are just like trikes front tires (and the trailers)
I think it will be a joy all around and better yet, we’ll get to compare notes. There needs to be a straight trailer hitch–none of the side stuff. Six matching wheels, tires and tubes–simplifies supplies. –jim
Did Ashley have any news about developing rear fenders?
I did not discuss. All my info on the rear fender is from his site. I’m planning to have 4 fenders. I figure by April, all that will be sorted out. I’m also waiting to see his 2010 lineup. I know the quads will be black–which was on my want list. We dis discuss read disk brakes and decided I do not need them–more a requirement in some foreign countries. –jim
I concur on no rear disk brakes. BB7 mechanicals up front AND well tuned have tremendous stopping power. Having rear just adds mechanical complications (Murphy attractants) Hydrolic problems out on the road is near terminal, again without gain in needed function. (Over 25 – 30 mph loaded with trailer is dare-devel territory to which I will not go again).
I would always have rear wheel fenders. There is no real telling when things obnoxious will be sprayed over everthing. In dry weather I take the front fenders off (but keep on hand)— this allows propelling the front wheels by hand when pedaling isn’t making headway.
Yeah, we want this a bullet-proof [no visits from Murphy] as possible. Plus, why add more weight? I have selected Avid BB7s. I like keeping my fenders on; but, I do understand.
Jim: Have you checked out the ATC quad at Lightfoot cycles? They make one with 26″ wheels all around. I just had a trike built with 26″ wheels all around from them. They do great work. Frank
Hello Frank, I had not, but I have now. I have seen their two-seater “sociable” models, but not the ATC. The 26″ wheel build is good for some, especially off-road. It is good to review all options, thanks for bringing this one to my attention. –jim
