P&P Pays ~ 12/16 4

Patience and persistence was my forte in solving many computer problems when I operated my business. Well, it remains an essential component in my current endeavors.

In an effort to use Webcam 7, the Sony Webbie, and my Creative Labs’ Live! Cam Optia AF, I decided to downgrade my “new” laptop to Windows XP Professional [XP is needed for video streaming from the Sony Camera] from Windows 7.

Sounds like an easy task. NOT!

XP would not see “a mass storage device” [the SATA hard drive]. This may mean finding the SATA driver for my chipset and installing it, if I cannot change the SATA configuration in the BIOS—I CANNOT! Off to find drivers. This also means I need a USB floppy drive to install them. Drive purchased—driver downloaded. It took 3 downloads to get a driver that works. Windows XP Pro is now installed on the WebCamSvr.

Now, I have 7 devices without drivers. BTW, the Internet comments are that support for Windows XP has ended and there may not be drivers for newer computers. We shall see. First to install my Intellinet Wireless UPS Adapter so I can find drivers [more important network interface card drivers].

As I say, Patience and persistence pays…

P.S. I may get night shots with this setup or we may wait one more day…

Okay???

    • Time is passing much too fast for me. Before we know it, we will be reading about some poor soul in the desert. More daylight helps me ride. I do not have to get it in before 4:30 p.m. Cheers…

  1. Whew! I’m glad you have developed patience. If I had hair, I’d probably be pulling it out by now. Do I correctly understand that after you loaded Windows 7, you had to unload it and reinstall XP? What a time committment!

    • Thanks Zeke,

The WebCamSvr came with Windows 7–no problem. I like it. I had to run an XP virtual machine on it to see the Sony Weebie. It uses a different subnet. I could only see the camera in the virtual machine. When I put both in, I could see neither on the web. Using XP will facilitate both and allow port forwarding to work. That’s my theory anyway. I’ll know in a bit what reality is. I’m still downloading updates.

I did upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium on the WebCamSvr to Windows 7 Professional. Windows XP was never on my “new” laptop. Actually, none of my computers are running Windows XP.
