I received the umbrella at 5:30 p.m. That was much too late to adapt to SPECTER and get pictures. In fact, I just finished [8:30 p.m. EST] adapting it [so went a functional human umbrella]. I do like the results for the purpose intended. Pictures tomorrow…

I concur. Further, The width of this umbrella should keep the truck bed relatively dry and protect it from UV. Thanks for your thoughts and comment. –jim

Shade would only be an issue if you’re focused on an area directly within the shade itself. Not only will the umbrella protect you from rain, it will also protect you from direct overhead sunlight getting into your lens and blowing out the video.

Thanks for your thoughts Zeke. My testing with the small white umbrella seemed to have no shade effect. I intend to mount it low to avoid rain from the sides, yet not get in the way of the shot. I found that magic point with the prototype and cut the shaft to the length that worked. I do not mind shutting down in the rain, yet if an event continues, then I want to also. I’ll have other backups. If the rain is light [like in Fayetteville today], then I can continue and not have to worry about water damage. Thirty-two inches around seems adequate. Testing will tell me more.

The new Logitech camera makes software adjustments for lighting. Depending on how this goes, I may also use remote lighting.

Hey,

Do you think the dark cover of the umbrella will create any exposure issues? I’m wondering if mounting it high enough to avoid shade issues will make it more vulnerable to any rain or moisture drifting in on the wind.
