Fri, Oct 09 09 – 18:41 — Maria Parker
Finally, it’s the night before. We’ve had Doug Burton here all day today and most of yesterday tuning my bike, and Jim’s (for a back up). I’ve got my water, goo, and tea bottles filled, my little baggies of pretzels and food, my sunglasses, sun screen advil, mp3 player, helmet, etc. ready to go. Now if I can only sleep. I’ve been having anxiety dreams the last few nights. I think I’m tired enough to sleep deeply if for only a few hours tonight. We’ll wake early and leave here by 5:15 am. I start pedaling at 6:30. I’m so grateful for all the support from the Cruzbike community. Wish me luck tomorrow!
…and well she did. Maria’s post ride story.
It has been a delight bringing this story [and those of other cyclist] to you as I blog on Cycling Experiences…
Jim
Hey there Jim. The excitement is still there, can’t barely do anything without looking back at the records and the photos, so much of which you furnished. How’re we going to make it up to you? You played a pivotal role, you were marvellously well prepared and then executed your plans to perfection using all the tools one could think of. What a star – never let me tell any army jokes every again!
Thanks, its been just greating having you work alongside and facilitate so much. At one point I was able to phone in to Jim after reviewing the lap times to discuss where we might manage better and to relay to Maria. Having your timely result postings was fantastic. I will get to NC, so remember I’m going to want to make pay-back somehow – maybe a ride out with you, or a meal or just a visit to meet the Magnificent 7 and say thanks in person.
Best, and take care,
John Tolhurst
G’Day John,
Thank for your very kind words. No payback expected, nor needed. I do these things out of my joy of the sport. Maybe I had been practicing during the summer as I did Mr. Giraldo, RAAM, and TDF. I even did a special on your own Poiter Heal.
I look to say more about Cruzbike, especially the Vendetta. I may need your advice & counsel on a clean chain line for it. I’m leaning toward a hub so not to loose top-end speed. Doug thinks maybe the iMotion Hub. I’m open to the best fit–cost not a factor.
Maybe a Vendetta that is autographed or otherwise distinctive or unique [as it relates to Maria's accomplishment] would make it special. If, not then a Cruzbike Jersey will go to helping me promote your bikes. As you can see in my blog, the Silvio was on my shopping list in 2007 and was deferred by my trike. I put it back on the list mid September–now the Vendetta. All this, without the knowledge of Maria’s event. I also did a story on her Saratoga ride.
I know my blog is well read. I also know my posting to other boards [Catrike & RANS] helps get the word out. Catrike [Big Cat] frequently tell me of the benefit they see in what I do. It is your call sir.
Maybe good stories will now come to mind as you comment on us Army mates. When you are in the area, I certainly want to see you. A ride will be good and I’d love for you to see my cycles. Thanks for your warm thoughts. Maybe event coverage like this can be a model for such events in the future and “they” can name it in honor of the one who covered Maria. What an awesome rider she is!
Thanks for your comments and feedback. It helps a lot and is deeply appreciated.
Take care and I look forward to meeting you.
Jim
