This is the Silvio morph that I have in mind [post#1 & post#2]. John is designing a time trial bike base on the Silvio 700c Cruzbike:
This is the first picture of his prototype. John also gives us a new article in his blog [Vendetta first prototype build]. Also, check this Cruzbike thread. Johns says:
Currently running a Silvio front end, this bike will allow us to evaluate a range of ergonomic and fitment questions. There is a second rear brake position behind the top of the seat, that will take the caliper out of the airflow.
I put new Ultegra on it, the brifters of which now has both brake and gear cables under the bar tape which is very nice. The brifters also have a socket for an electronic gear change signaller, or so it appears to me. The crank is 170 with 39/53 on a 12/27 10 speed cluster.
Cool looking bike! Thanks John!
How could you even see the road in front of you? That is a pretty extreme seat angle. Is it fixed or adjustable? I am interested in the Silvio because it looks like to me it could be a great travel bike. It seems like with very little work, you could break it down into a pretty small package for shipping? What do you think Jim?
There’s a Softrider for sale locally on Craigslist for $700 (asking price). I was thinking about trying to pick it up to see if I like the position and handling.
Hi David,
Cool bike, eh? It is a work in progress. The new front triangle is yet to be designed. The seat is fixed. The Silvio, of course, has a more upright riding position. I’ve ridden the Sofrider and a Silvio. Visibility was not a problem. The Vendetta is more reclined [to be more aero]. So, we will have to see. I rive even more reclined on my VK2, yet I see the road very will.
RE riding the Sofrider. I do think it and the Silvio ride very different. If you can, try a Silvio for comparison. How far are you from Van Nuys? Bent Up Cycles there may have one you can try.
John say the Vendetta will have foldable handlebars. Yes, I think it will travel well and I need a bike I can fly with. This could be it–especially as a single speed. As I look at its speed potential. I’m thinking BIG GEAR, but the weight savings says, maybe I do not need to go that fast.
Take care…
Jim
