The slot is necessary to place the fairing on the trike. I think the overall presentation of the trike set up with the fairing is enhanced with the tire covered. Given that cover, there is the practical rain/debris protection afforded by some type shield. Other views can be seen in my flickr uploads [damage & setup],

P1010002-1 I imaging someone will want to know. I cut off about 10" of a Planet Bike Front Fender.  I used the first mounting hole as the cut point. Then I placed a PB rear fender mount on the fender and attached it to the neck rest top rail using the smallest of my DiNotte mounting clamps. As I see it, the solution is practical and aesthetically pleasing. The piece in front of the fender is a custom flag mount. Tell me what you think.

Thanks!  –jim

    • Thanks Duncan, Of course, I agree. I’m a bit surprised the creator just left the slot open. I’ve added a bit mot to the post [including one more pic]. Take care…

  1. It’s an elegant solution. I’m wondering if you might get some buzzing or other contact noise in certain situations, however. Maybe a couple of peel ‘n stick silicone dots on the underside of the fender if it does.

    • Hi J.

Not so far. The mount holds it firm. I’ll have to see [I mean hear] what happens a 50 mph]. As you see in the side shots. It stands away from the fairing. Thanks! –jim

  3. Jim,

I think definitely covered. I really like the solution you came up with. I have to be totally honest and say that it’s really a shame that there is any opening there at all. ;-(

Maybe you could take one of your handy-dandy, waterproof iPhone covers and fabricate a clear cover. It would be just like this.

    What do ya think?

    • No one has said open. The slot is there to facilitate mounting the fairing. I could see a snap on hood as an integral part of the design. Until then I’m stuck with what I have. Clear wont work for me here because the tire can be seen when she’s preening. Anyway, glad you like my idea. –jim
