Day45 , and a surprise [for me, anyway] Reply

r. Giraldo got underway at 9:35 a.m. MDT [GPS Data Point 24], heading south on U.S. Highway 50. He rode just over 32 miles. Surprising for me was the he continued south on Colorado 69 to Westcliffe rather than continuing on U.S. 5o going in to Canon City. I’m sure there is good reason. I’m just not privy to it. Mr. Giraldo stopped riding about 3:34 p.m. MDT [GPS Data Point 45], in Westcliffe. He now has about a 55 mile ride into Pueblo. Either route will get you there. My calculations give me a 6-mile shorter distance staying on U.S. Highway 50. Of course, the grade of the climbs may also be a factor. We just do not know. Speculation is useless. Anyway, here is the SPOT map for the day [Password="Student"]. We hope all is well and that Mr. G is feeling better than he did on Saturday.

Mr. Giraldo’s "This is it!" Ride ~ Day45 1

Well, so I thought.

I have no idea how far Mr. Giraldo may ride today—Day45 of his epic tour. Originally [Saturday], he had hoped to make it to Cotopaxi, but did not because he felt ill and stopped at Howard, Colorado. Yesterday [Sunday], was taken as a rest day. So, here we are 82 miles from Pueblo and 44 miles to Canon City. The question is: Will he go all the way of stop enroute? We do not know. So, we watch and try to report. This post picks up with the original ride from Cotopaxi.

If completed, the ride from Cotopaxi [now Howard] to Pueblo will complete the mountains for a while, that is until the Appalachian Mountains as he nears the east coast [now revised]. I know that Mr. Giraldo looks forward to riding in the great plains. He has another summit to climb, and then downhill to Pueblo. There, he’ll pick up the items he shipped from San Francisco. Likely deposit other item and then continue his journey east [Note: See Mr. G's Tour Update1].
