STS-127 is finally off, having launched today at 6:03 p.m. EDT.

The 16-day mission will feature five spacewalks and complete construction of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kibo laboratory. Astronauts will attach a platform to the outside of the Japanese module that will allow experiments to be exposed to space.

The STS-127 crew members are Commander Mark Polansky, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Dave Wolf, Christopher Cassidy, Tom Marshburn, Tim Kopra and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Julie Payette. Kopra will join the space station crew and replace Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata. Wakata will return to Earth on Endeavour to conclude a three-month stay at the station.

Mr. Giraldo’s Day40 ~ Montrose Reply

July 15, 2009, 7:17 p.m. update.

Dear Reader:

Tour of Discovery - Day 40 042 It was a productive day. Destiny got a detailed inspection. New tires were mounted and the wheels were aligned. This was a huge priority. I was able to buy provisions of freeze-dry meals for the journey ahead. Laundry got done and I managed to make most of my phone calls. The most important thing of all got done. That which I have not been able to do in over a month… I got my hair cut! With this action I got readmitted to the human race and now look somewhat decent.

New photography has been uploaded: Check it out at:

- July 15 – Day 40 -  Montrose, CO

As always, thank you for your  prayers, generous comments, financial support, and words of encouragement. To complete this journey, all of these are needed.

Sincere regards,

Rafael Giraldo

Thanks Mr. G. I’m wondering if you found the toe-in setting to be off? Was everything else with Destiny okay? Hoping you henceforth have uneventful riding. The best…

Jim

Final Prep for my Goblin Cricket Tail Fairing

Well, I thought my Catrike 700 would be faired near the end of June, having ordered and paid for an unfinished Goblin Fairing May 25, 2009. I paid for painting June 25, 2009. There have been delays and more delays. Now, I’m hoping next week; but, I’ve said that many times. Please, let me be wrong this time…

The adjustments, modifications & pictures follow:

Day39 is done! Thank you Mr. Giraldo 1

Tour of Discovery - Day 39 094

The ride is over. It ended about 6:04 p.m. MDT [Password="Student"] with Mr. Giraldo arriving at his motel in Montrose, Colorado for the night’s stay.

He has uploaded 157 pictures for us to view. I’ve got to go to Colorado [and Utah]. I’ve been to California & Nevada and the other states he will travel through.

Today he rode about 66 miles from Telluride to Montrose. He climbed 1986′ and descended 4946′.

Following is a snapshot of SPOT’s recording.
