Dolores2Telluride Elevation Profile 1

Dolores2TellurideElvProfile

I found a no-cost solution for me to create an elevation profile from a Google Earth KLM file [after altitude information is added], using GPS Visualizer. I think this will give a rider some idea the amount of climbing associated with a ride. The length of the respective axis can distort the severity of a climb. Here I’m using the default GPS Visualize ratio of 570 to 270 pixels. Here we know at the 48-mile point, we reach the summit, it is relatively downhill to Telluride.

As you have noted, I have been using Delorme elevation profiles provided by Terry of BROL. They also work, but for me to use, I’d have to buy Delorme mapping software. I’m currently using one of their competitors GPS devices & their mapping software [streets versus topographic]. When I have no Terry, and want an EP, what to do?

I’m open to better ideas [no-cost] from my readers. Help please…

Google Earth Tour of Mr. Giraldo’s Tour of Discovery Reply

GE Tour

Download the Google Earth KMZ file here. Pardon the annoying ads at Upload.com and the delay of about 1.5 minutes before you can select the download button. It is a free service, with the intent to have users subscribe to their Premium Service.

Anyway, with the KMZ file you can fly[as in Google Earth Tour] to the approximate locations where Mr. G spent the night after triking most of the day.

If you do not have Google Earth, you can down load it here. Once you have the KMZ file on your computer, you can “associate” it with Google Earth or use GE to browse and open it. The tour should begin automatically.

In addition, my Media Matrix Page gives you a link to manually explore the places that Mr. Giraldo has traveled [riding Destiny].

Announcement from Mr. Giraldo ~ Day36 1

July 11, 2009

Dear Reader:

Before leaving from Dove Creek yesterday, I made arrangements with Josh from Atlantic Bicycles to have the Schwable Marathon tires and the alignment tool shipped next-day to the Outpost Motel in Dolores, where I am currently staying. Since the next leg of the journey is very demanding for it is essentially all up hill; it would be unwise to do this without completely solving the tire issue. As a result, I will be taking today off and will use the time to edit and upload video, as I wait for the package to arrive. Hopefully, there will be no shipping delays. Once the tires are mounted and aligned, I look forward to tackling the 8,000-ft climb that is before me. Terry from the BROL Readers and Jim from Cycling Experiences are supplying for your benefit an elevation map and a detailed analysis of the ride that continues from Dolores to Telluride, Colorado.

My spirits are high, health is good. The mind and body are as determined as ever. My only worries are centered on the financial part as resources are at a critically low. Your sponsorship is always appreciated and goes a long way to help bring this story to the many students that have been following.

New photography has been uploaded:

As always, thank you for your  prayers, generous comments, financial support, and words of encouragement. To complete this journey, all of these are needed.

Sincere regards,

Rafael Giraldo
