Pileated Woodpecker 2

Yesterday, I posted an article on a Pileated Woodpecker [that was disturbing me and destroying my house and my neighbor's house]. My friend Zeke mentioned in a comment that he has a pair near him and that he likes their call. Well, just the opportunity for me to get busy and research the Pileated Woodpecker more that I did yesterday. They do have a nice call and look great in the wild. Actually, I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to see one “up-close-and-personal” and to have captured my very own photographs. Here is a You-Tube video that gives information on this bird, including its call.

Thanks Zeke!

  1. Well, I think I discerned in the video the solution to keep “Woodie” from destroying your house. You simply cut down all the trees near your or otherwise kill them, let a bunch of insects take up residence, darned if your house isn’t woodpecker free! :)

I enjoyed the video! Thanks for posting it. You’ve got me on the lookout now for our Pileated. I’ll have to keep the camera nearby. As I type this, we have an Indigo Bunting and a Flicker eating in our feeder outside our window. We do enjoy our birds! One of the many good interests that we “inherited” from our parents.

    • Hi Zeke,

Now I’m complete [with your post, save David]. Should my “Woodie” friend [not really] return, I’ll have to to introduce him to the trees. I was looking at other houses in the neighborhood today and did not see evidence of Pileated feeding. You may have noted in some of the other videos, the videographer baited the woodpecker into performing for the camera. Glad you like the post. I like trying to give a bit of blog variety [based on my experiences or those I find notable from the Internet]. In this case, you said you like the calls and I wanted to know what you have been hearing. Observing wildlife is rewarding. We are blessed…

      Jim
