Tail Fairing on a Catrike 700 ~ the Cricket! 9

Well, here is Jeff’s production GoblinCricket tail fairing for the Catrike 700 ~ racing version. Thanks Jeff for posting this video on YouTube.

Jeff says:

5/4/09 – These photos show the first Cricket tail fairing for the 700. I tested it yesterday and today. It is the race version that has no storage. The storage version will be done tomorrow!

It only weighs 7.25 pounds made from isophthalic polyester tooling resin.

It is easy to pick up the trike by the tubing just below the neck rest and a front strut.

  1. I think that will look sharp on Silk. I can see that the storage compartment would be an excellent addition. So, when is the big order date? :)

  2. Hey Jim,

I looked at the Goblin website, but I couldn’t figure out how that tail box attaches to Silk. What kind of attachment points and method are there?

    • Hi David,

I have not seen exactly how the fairing will attach to the Catrike 700 frame. Jeff posted this comment in a BROL thread this morning as it relates to the fairing being adapted to a NoCom low-racer:

I believe that it would come very close to fitting, but not an exact fit (it’s designed to secure to the Catrike 700′s frame tubing.

If you were to purchase an unpainted unit, I suspect that it would be quite easy to adapt to your rig. You could purchase a fiberglass repair kit at any automotive supply store to make any adaptations to the fairing, then paint it. If you have no fiberglass experience, I can walk you through it over the phone fairly quickly, then you’d have to put in a small amount of time to do the mods.

From this, I know there is some frame attachment device. I just do not know where the connection points are.

      Jim

  3. Thanks Jim. I have no doubt when you get your fairing you will document the attachment for all of our inquiring minds!

    • Hello again David,

Indeed I will. I’m preparing my trike for the faring now. I’m thinking of getting the unfinished racing version, giving me the flexibility on modifying. Maybe, I can find a way to fit my taillights therein. Jeff Bales mention a flocking finish to make the faring even more aerodynamic. I may also try that. Whatever I do, I’ll write about it as well as provide pictures. Thanks for your interest. –jim
