Vices, that is hobbies ~ can be EXPENSIVE! Reply

…but; that depends on what your hobbies are. I guess I have the expensive ones–thus vices.

As I look to add another dimension [panoramas] to my photography, I must note photographic equipment is very expensive–more so than cycling related gear. In my bio I say:

“I am now a retiree who thinks we are entitled to at least one vice, providing it does not harm or hurt anyone and is neither illegal, nor immoral.  My current vice is cycling.  Other vices include photography, stereo equipment, computers, and in-home theater.”

Cycling can be expensive. After the cycle, there are pedals, shoes, clothing, organized rides, etc. No wonder photography, in terms of the latest, greatest equipment got set aside. Plus cycling is good for my mind and body–photography rewards the mind. The costs of the latest, DSLR, lenses, tripod/camera mounts, and so forth is MORE expensive than cycles and related gear. Fortunately, once you buy your camera, etc., you can use what you have for many years. I find in reading photo-forums, many posters get new camera gear as soon as its released, and do so time-and-time again.

Of course those are personal choices. I’m just amazed at the cost. Good that I only have a single vice at a time. Although, for now photography and cycling are trying to compete. I’m deferring cycling purchases for a bit.
