Invaluable on my travels has been my CatStand. Some of the trike adjustment would have been very difficult without it. I carry my tools and the stand. I’m ready to work on my cycles. In the early days [DFs only], I carried my Park Tool Stand. When you need to work, you need the right “stuff.”

Silk does the Jacksonville-Baldwin Trail–29 miles 1
This is a rails to trail conversion. Today’s ride: 0803240755Jacksonville-Baldwin_RTT followed my 102 miles yesterday. I experienced some knee discomfort–kneecap–time to lengthen the boom a bit more. To some degree, the ride was a recovery ride. I though I might have had a higher average speed [12.7 mph average over 28.98 miles], but not today. I pushed it a bit coming back in from this out & back–check MB laps display for this ride. You will see shorter time for the last few miles. It also looks like I’m mashing–cadence in the 70s.

Roger Zoul [BROL] says:
“Hi Jim, Congrats! I take it you had a good ride. I had checked your MB before you sent this, so I knew you had completed. What are you impressions of the 700 now after your first full century? How does it compare to your VK2 in terms of comfort? Is the 700 better for touring than the SXP? Questions, questions. Did you ride with someone? Must have been hard to keep going alone like that… I hope you enjoy your ride tomorrow. Travel safe, too.
Roger”
My reply:
“The ride was OK. Good is a sub 7-hour ride [moving time]. I was 45 minutes over GOOD. However, no injuries and I completed the ride. I did not bonk.
Both the VK2 & CT700 hurt my Butt! No way–the SPX is my touring cycle of choice. I’ll use the CT700 for short shorter tours–say metric centuries or less for each day. I can ride the SPX all day and more. I think the trike is best when there are other trikes around. I rode by myself–passing all in front of me and not being passed until a roadie passed me with about 5 more miles to ride. He would have likely passed me earlier.
The rubbing inner wheel cover slowed me down, if no more than me trying to determine the noise source as I rode. The friction likely had a cost too–in terms of overall speed. No it was not hard to keep going. I had a goal–complete a century on Silk. I will always achieve my goal unless me or the cycle breaks.
I should be ready for tomorrow’s ride. I know the feeling from other long rides I have done–over 100 mile rides. The next morning I would start and after a few miles, I was Okay.
Jim”
