Let it rain Reply

Thanks to Larry Varney [BROL member], who I had to pleasure of meeting and riding with at the 2008 Catrike Rally, for his article [now missing at BROL] on Catrike front fenders. Larry noted in his article that he’d want a bit more wheel coverage.

Where I would like to see an improvement is in the fender, specifically in the coverage on the front side of the wheel. For most people, the current design of fenders – and this goes for just about all bikes and trikes I see nowadays, not just Catrike or even Planet Bike – they literally stop too soon. I would like to see the front fenders extended to cover more of the front portion of the tire. Sure, it’s more important to cover that back section, and have a good-sized “mud flap” hanging down – but there are times when spray comes off the front of the tire and is then blown back on the rider. Instead of having the fender stop at the “noon” position, how about “10 o’clock”?

I‘ll give that a go later this week using Greenspeed 16″ rear fenders. I also noted that with my current fenders, I get spray on my forearm as I ride through puddles. The fender could be a bit lower at the rear. This is also noted by Leucas [BROL member] in his post on the Larry’s article thread. I’ll try to resolve the spray also. Now, let’s see how that looks. Stay tuned…

Okay, tell us what you think...
