What’s in a Name? 1

I‘ve decided to dub My Catrike 700 “Silk

Why Silk? Having lived in Germany and buying a black Catrike [referred to as cat], I’m using the letters [S & K] from the German words for Black Cat [Schwartz Katz]. I inserted the il to make the word Silk. Of course silk is smooth and I think fitting for the trike I am creating.

The last few days I’ve worked to adapt the German Mirrors to allow them to be used on the left and right of the trike. I think they will work but not look as streamline ["aero"] as they were. I need to buy a different adhesive and rubberized spray for the back.

I have also worked on my windsail mast. The winsail will incorporate a strobe light at the top. I used the strobe on my RANS Stratus XP. It provides greater cycle visibility. Given the lowness of the trike, I’ll use it. I hope to receive the windsail by Wednesday. I found a novel way to mount it. On the strobe, I intend to use a remote switch to turn it on & off. You may wonder why. Should I ride where there is no traffic, I can conserve the battery.

I used 1/2-inch PVC pipe, covered with black heat-shrink-wrap, to hold the fiberglass shaft. I placed the shaft in a Nalgene drinking tube to fill the PVC–perfect. I then mounted it at the front of the rear fender, which means it will be centered over the rear wheel. I also adapted a cover to conceal the zip ties, presenting a more finished appearance. As soon as I receive and install the windsail, I’ll post pictures.

Before I forget, I have modified the AirZound Horn and the Fastback System Packs. I’ll mount the horn near the steering controls so that I can easily press the horn handle. I’ll place the bottle in one of the packs. Oh yes, I’ll also order a second NorBack Pack. One, mounted on the frame, just in front of the rear wheel and the other on the boom.
